"Whoa, Mom. Who's coat is this?" Sighing I turned and looked at my son, seeing his father all over again as he was in the fall of 1970 the night we met. I'd tried to avoid going to the disco with the girls again, afraid I'd meet someone and afraid I wouldn't. But they kept at me saying, "Come on Cindy, it's only to dance." So off I went wearing my new leather coat hoping that no one would spill beer on it.

It was a night at the disco like too many others. Lots of sloppy passes and married men on the make trying to pick up the vulnerable ladies. One last loser just had to use the worn out pick up line, " Hey baby, what's your sign?" and suddenly tired of all the dreck that was at the disco I said loud and clear, "Do not enter."

Down the bar a couple of stools away I then saw a beautiful smile and above it a pair of baby blues that you could drown in. He mouthed the words "Atta girl" and toasted me with his drink. As if in a dream I moved my way down the floor so I could get a better look. A month later we were at the justice of the peace office getting married.

"Mom, Mom are you okay? Mom?" "Sorry Billy, I just got caught up in the past. The coat is mine." "Cool." With that the door slammed and in walked the baby blues that I still drown in. "Hey, where did you find that coat? That's the coat your mom was wearing when I fell in love with her."

Feel like making a little history of your own? Then check out this great coat from Vintage Vineyard at Specialist Auctions Vintage.

What is with the incessant talking?? Can’t a gown get a little shut eye? Who is this mysterious woman they keep saying is going to love me? They keep saying I’m right up her alley and that she should be in today. Lucky for me I’m hanging on a rack towards the front of the store and I can see each person as they come in. Heck, I don’t even need to see them because of that darn bell they have attached to the door. Oh no it’s that kid again. What is it about bells that make little boys grab them and clang them as loud as they can. Can’t that kid see I’m trying to rest here??

Well here comes another customer in the door. The manager is greeting her like she’s a long lost friend and now she’s saying she hasn’t been in because of all the snow and her girls being home from school, as if anyone really cares about that. She’s making a beeline right to where I’m hanging. Nope, wait, she’s starting at the opposite end of the rack. Oh well I’ll be here forever. Once a bridesmaid dress always a bridesmaid dress. She’s getting closer and frowning now. Guess she’s not finding anything to her liking.

Oh my. She’s spotted me. The manager is laughing and saying, “I thought that one would catch your eye. It’s right up your alley.” Oh my gosh she’s running my zipper up and down . Boy that feels nice after all these years. What do you know, she’s checking out my label and getting all excited but trying to maintain her cool so as not to call attention to herself. Oh wow she’s putting me over her arm and walking towards the register! I’m free! I’m free! I'm so glad to get away from this ham handed manager who is twisting me all around trying to find my price tage. My new owner is saying “let me fold this up.“ Boy her hands are soft and she knows how to handle a fine vintage gown like me. She’s stroking my crochet work and saying how amazing the work is. Ah it feels good to be handled so gently. She sure knows how to handle fine things. She has no rings on and I'll bet that's so she doesn't ruin me. It sure feels good to be ooohed and ahhed over. It’s been so long since that happened, 1975 if I remember correctly. Here I go into the plastic bag. I wonder where she’s taking me. Gee I hope she’s going to clean me and iron me. I’ve almost forgotten how good it feels to be pressed.

When I think about how my DH hoards his well used tee-shirts, keeps his worn out moccasins (because my mom gave them to him the last Christmas she was alive) and how he clings to his cut off jean shorts from when he was 17 (which are so holey and ripped he could get arrested for indecent exposure) I wasn't sure about asking him to choose what he felt was the best vintage menswear available at Specialist Auctions.

However, he surprised me. I should have remembered that when this man dresses up he does it right and has a great sense of style. So without further ado we present Jim's picks for vintage fashion for the man in your life. We also want to welcome our newest seller, Nelda's Vintage Clothing!
